Serena Williams’ childhood coach makes one thing clear about Nick Kyrgios

Serena Williams’ childhood coach Rick Macci says Nick Kyrgios’ 2022 Wimbledon run “was not a one-hit wonder.” Last summer, 28-year-old Kyrgios made his first Grand Slam singles final at Wimbledon before losing to Novak Djokovic in four sets.
Shortly after Wimbledon, Kyrgios won his first title since 2019 in Washington. Even though Kyrgios won just one title in 2022, there was no doubt that he was playing the tennis of his life since he was constantly beating top players and making notable runs at the Grand Slam and Masters tournaments.“I don’t think it was a one-hit wonder.
I think what you saw when he did that at Wimbledon, then followed up with Washington and then quarters US Open, I think you saw his real ability. He’s an artist, he’s a performer,” Macci told Tennis-Infinity.

After a career-best season in 2022, Kyrgios was hit with an unfortunate knee injury and he had surgery in January.
After missing the first part of the season and kicking off his year in June, Kyrgios then sustained a wrist ligament injury. So far in 2023, Kyrgios has played just one tournament and one match. “Now, you’re right, with the injury, he has to start all over.
It depends if he’s hungry, if he wants to do it. When you got a serve and you can return like that, and you’re one of the best athletes that held a racket in the world, you got a shot against anybody. But as we all know, tennis is a game of inches; from one ear, to another.
And if that’s not there, you know, you’re gonna lose your brother. But, if you have the game, and obviously Kyrgios does, and listen, no one, no one wants to play the guy because you don’t know what you’re gonna get,” Macci said.
