SIX people are presumed dead after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed today in Baltimore, Maryland.

The Coast Guard suspended its active search and rescue efforts at 7:30 pm ET as officials move to a recovery operation for the six missing people.

Meanwhile, the executive director of the American Pilots’ Association told the Associated Press that the pilot of the ship that crashed into the bridge tried to slow down before the collision.

Eerie video of the horrifying collapse showed the ship’s lights flickering before the crash, but executive director Clay Diamond said the vessel’s emergency generators turned the lights back on after the ship had “lost its power for 60 seconds.”

Diamond said the pilot had ordered the rudder hard to keep the ship from turning right and dropped the anchor before the boat crashed into the structure.
