Commuters have been warned of travel chaos

Trains have been cancelled between Surbiton and Woking and Wimbledon and Surbiton after two seperate emergency incidents. 

A man was struck by a train in New Malden rail station at 12.30pm, while another man was hit by a train in Woking at around 12.45pm. 

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Just before 12.30pm today, we were called to New Malden station following reports that a person had been struck by a train.

“Officers are on scene alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service however a man has sadly been pronounced dead. 

“Officers are now working to identify the man and inform his family.

“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.” 

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 12.28pm to reports of a person hit by a train at New Malden Railway Station. 

“We sent a single responder in a car, an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and an advanced paramedic to the scene, with the first of our medics arriving in under four minutes. 

“Sadly, a person was dead at the scene.”

Commuters have warned of hour delays

The incident caused delays between Wimbledon and Surbiton as it was warned train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 120 minutes or diverted via Cobham & Stoke D’abernon.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Meanwhile, officers scrambled to the scene in Woking at around 12.45pm, along with paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service, where a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are working to identify the man and inform his family.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Train bosses warned services running through Surbiton and Woking may be cancelled and delayed by up to 60 minutes or diverted via Epsom.

Disruption is expected until 5pm.
