Manchester United youngster Callum Gribbin has admitted his six-week injury lay-off was ‘frustrating’ but he is close to full fitness.
The United website released a new batch of pictures of the Under-18s in training at Carrington on Wednesday and Gribbin was among the teenagers being put through their paces by new coach Kieran McKenna.
It is understood the photographs were taken in late September but 17-year-old Gribbin’s recovery time prevented him from featuring in the weekend win at Middlesbrough.
The U18s are top of the northern league with five wins from their opening eight games and Gribbin could be in contention to face Sunderland at the weekend.
Gribbin wrote on Twitter: “Been frustrating, been hard work.. But I’m nearly there.”
Salford teenager Gribbin has not played since United travelled to the Netherlands for the Otten Cup, when Gribbin scored a superb solo goal against Barcelona.

Gribbin made his Under-21 debut in May 2015 and trained with the United first-team a couple of months later, but experienced a frustrating 2015-16 in the academy and injury ended his season early.
In Gribbin’s absence, Angel Gomes has scored five goals, while Indy Boonen and DJ Buffonge have struck three times. Dutch forward Tahith Chong has netted once but provided five assists, including Kayne Diedrick-Roberts’ winner at Boro on Saturday.
Gomes, 16, was on international duty with England last week and Chong linked up with the Netherlands Under-19s this week.
