Vladimir Putin was defended by an audience member on Question Time

The member of the crowd defended Russia after Vladimir Putin was accused of running his country on “gangster capitalism”.

Speaking during the BBC programme in Gloucestershire, she said: “I am pretty sick and tired of Russia being put into the position of the enemy, as if we are the good guys and they are the bad guys.”

“Let’s not forget what started all this s*** in the world was the Iraq war, OK.”

Her condemnation of Blair comes just months after the Sir John Chilcot enquiry into the Middle East conflict, which made it clear multiple failures had been made in the planning of the military engagement.

The Chilcot Report found that former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein posed “no imminent threat” at the time of the invasion of his country in 2003 and that the war was started on the basis of “flawed” intelligence.

Film director Ken Loach also blasted Putin

The audience member’s statement was met with a rapturous applause as she continued her point.

She added: “That started power vacuum we had to go into Libya. Dethrone Saddam Hussein and dethrone Gaddafi, what happened there? We now have ISIS there.”

Her outburst sent Twitter into meltdown as users took to social media to express their bemusement.

Joe Parkinson tweeted: “Someone said ’s***’ on Question Time! It’s the end of days.”

The audience member condemned Blair’s Iraq war

Her comments came after Ashley Cobb, a member of the crowd, asked: “Is Putin flexing his muscles for another cold war with the West?”

Film director Ken Loach blasted the Russian leader, saying: “He is running a country on gangster capitalism. It is a very complex problem and Russia sees Syria as it’s own ally. It feels isolated so it’s not surprise to get involved.”

Mr Loach then laid into the Iraq war, saying the UK cannot take the high ground after claiming Britain “dropped chemical weapons” on the country.
