WATCH: Here’s how Farage reacted to the idea of joining the House of Lords

The three main candidates to succeed Mr Farage as Ukip leader have all said they would push to secure him a peerage.

Paul Nuttall, Raheem Kassam and Suzanne Evans told the Sunday Times they would all like to see their eurosceptic leader on the red benches.

But the 52-year-old MEP has dismissed the chances of him becoming Lord Farage any time soon.

“It will never happen,” he told Sky News.

Hosting his radio show on LBC Mr Farage was told by one caller he would “liven the place up”.

Listener Charlie told him: “I do hope you do get into the Lords because I think you will liven the place up – even though I disagree with most of what you stand for.

“It would make politics more interesting.”

He then added it would open the way for Theresa May to bring the Brexiteer into government to oversee Brexit.

Mr Farage replied: “Well Charlie you are very sweet and yes you’re right. I am very passionate about us coming out [of the EU].

“And if I was to go to the house of Lords, I am not going to, but I would probably liven up the dining room or the bar, if not the chamber itself I would have to say.”

Ukip currently has three representatives in the House of Lords however they are all peers who have defected from other parties rather than appointees directly from Ukip.

Mr Nuttall, the favourite to win the Ukip leadership election, told The Sunday Times: “If Ukip are offered positions in the House of Lords, the first name on that list will be Nigel Farage.”

Ms Evans added: “If Nigel wants a seat in the House of Lords, I will campaign like stink for that.”

Mr Kassam, who has modelled his campaign slogan ‘Make Ukip Great Again’ on Donald Trump’s has gone a step further, saying he would love to see Mr Farage in the Lords and would also push for him to become honorary president of Ukip.
