Speaking to LBC, the man said he was fed-up of calls to back track on the referendum, which saw 17.4million people vote to leave the European Union.

He said the approach was “not going to work” and called for the Brexit process to be sped up.

Speaking to presenter Andrew Pierce, the man blasted Mayor of London Sadiq Khan who said Labour could “trump” Brexit if the left-wingers included the policy in an election manifesto or promised another referendum.

The fuming caller said: “We’re either in a democracy or we’re not.

“And the fact of the matter is Sadiq Khan who has 45 per cent of the London vote to become mayor is now talking about ‘forget what the people want, turn it around, we’ll have another referendum, we’ll have another referendum, we’ll keep having it until we get the right result’.

“It’s not going to work – I voted Remain out of interest but the fact of the matter is now that we’ve voted to get out let’s just do it.

“And the way we can do it is to turn around and say this is what we’ve contributed to the EU as the second largest contributor, let’s subtract what France has contributed and we’ll turn around and say right ‘we’re knocking that off the bill’.”

The outburst comes after Mr Khan claimed he was “optimist” about the possibility of the UK staying in the clutches of the bureaucratic Brussels bloc, but admitted the only way to do so would be to force Britons back to the polls.

He told the Guardian: “For it to have credibility with the British public, there would have to be a Labour manifesto offer, because the public would say, not unreasonably, ‘Hold on a sec, we voted to leave and you’re now sticking two fingers up at us’.

“You’d have to spell out, in black and white, what we’d do if we won the general election.

“What could trump the referendum result is us having a manifesto offer saying, we would not leave the EU, or we would have a second referendum.”

On Mr Khan’s remarks, a Labour spokesman said: “Labour respects the result of the referendum and is making the case for a jobs-first Brexit through securing full tariff-free access to the European single market.”
