Flight 7118 left East Midlands Airport shortly after 4pm this afternoon. 

It was due to land at Palma de Mallorca later this evening but has been diverted due to an unspecified emergency. 

Flight tracker AirLive tweeted: “LIVE Thomson #BY7118 to Palma de Mallorca is declaring an emergency.

“UPDATE Thomson #BY7118 to Palma de Mallorca is diverting to London Gatwick.”

One Twitter user said the plane had “just flown over my house” around 10 miles from the airport with its landing gear down. 

The flight landed safely at Gatwick at 3.46pm.

A Thomson flight to Mallorca has been diverted to London Gatwick

A spokesperson for Thomson said: “We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused to customers travelling on flight TOM7118 from East Midlands to Majorca earlier today, which was diverted to Gatwick as a result of a medical emergency.

“This flight has now landed in Palma, Majorca and we’d like to thank customers for their patience during this time.”
