On Sunday night a friend wrote on Facebook that she was eagerly anticipating ‘comments about Strictly Come Dancing being a dance competition and The X Factor being a singing competition’.
The point was of course that those who complain about ‘joke acts’ continuing to make it through each week as other performers get sent home – this week was the turn of Gifty Louise on The X Factor, and Anastacia and Brendon Cole from Strictly Come Dancing – have no argument because both shows are purely ‘entertainment’ shows.
But there’s just one problem with this idea… The X Factor IS a singing competition and it’s only right that we get angry that great singers are pushed aside for acts that are never going to have a career past the final of the ITV show.
