THE Sun’s Jenny Francis isn’t scared to get a little dippy – at least, not  when it comes to her favourite  condiment.

Ketchup is having a moment, with foodies flocking to buy posh takes on the kitchen classic.

A number of companies have created their own versions of the kitchen classic

Here, tomato sauce lover Jenny scores upmarket brands out of five to see which can measure up to Heinz . . .  and which  are left playing ketchup.

So which one came up on top?

Dr Will’s Tomato Ketchup

Dr Will's Tomato Ketchup was rated ‘almost inedible' by Jenny

Dr Will’s Tomato Ketchup was rated ‘almost inedible’ by Jenny

SELFRIDGES, £3.99 (250ml): Almost inedible.

This tastes like someone has squeezed tomato puree out of a tube and added nothing to it.

Bland and thick. I wouldn’t go near this with a single chip.

Rubies In The Rubble Fiery Tomato Relish

The colour of Rubies In The Rubble Fiery Tomato Relish was a negative for Jenny who said it was ‘bland’

The colour of Rubies In The Rubble Fiery Tomato Relish was a negative for Jenny who said it was ‘bland’

RUBIESINTHERUBBLE. COM, £3.50 (270g): The colour is an immediate turn-off – this is meant to be ketchup, not brown sauce!

The taste doesn’t make up for it. Too vinegary and with a horrible spicy aftertaste.

2/5

Fortnum’s Tomato Sauce

Fortnum's Tomato Sauce had a ‘strong red colour’ but had an overpowering chilli taste

Fortnum’s Tomato Sauce had a ‘strong red colour’ but had an overpowering chilli taste

FORTNUM & MASON, £4.95 (250ml): Strong red colour and smoothish in texture, what lets down this sauce is the overpowering chili hit.

Way too spicy for a ketchup.

3/5

The Ginger Pig Tomato Ketchup

The Ginger Pig Tomato Ketchup came in third for its tangy and subtly smoky taste

The Ginger Pig Tomato Ketchup came in third for its tangy and subtly smoky taste

BOROUGH MARKET, £4 (280g): A very close third place.

Slightly tangy and subtly smoky, this sauce is well balanced and would be great with chips, in a bacon sarnie or even enjoyed on its own.

Pass the spoon.

4/5

Newton & Pott Homemade Ketchup

Jenny thought Newton & Pott Homemade Ketchup was not smooth enough to quality as ketchup though she said it made a tasty relish

Jenny thought Newton & Pott Homemade Ketchup was not smooth enough to quality as ketchup though she said it made a tasty relish

HARRODS, £6 (250ml): In a tomato relish contest, this would jostle for top spot.

It tastes delicious, with hints of spice and apple. But the big chunks give it the texture of chutney.

Neither sweet nor smooth enough to qualify as a ketchup.

2/5

M&S Bloody Mary Ketchup

M&S Bloody Mary Ketchup was deemed smooth but not the right accompaniment for chips

Louis Wood – The Sun

M&S Bloody Mary Ketchup was deemed smooth but not the right accompaniment for chips

MARKS & SPENCER, £2 (250g): Not a classic ketchup but it does taste like a Bloody Mary.

Smooth, with that kick of Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco.

And it has vodka in it. Would be great for a barbecue . . . just not for chips.

3/5

Stokes Chipotle Ketchup

Stokes Chipotle Ketchup was described as an ‘absolute stonker of a ketchup’

Stokes Chipotle Ketchup was described as an ‘absolute stonker of a ketchup’

WAITROSE, SAINSBURY’S, £2 (300g): An absolute stonker of a ketchup.

Has a hint of smoky barbecue about it but that’s not overpowering.

You still get the underlying sweetness of the tomato taste.

4.5/5

Heinz Tomato Ketchup

Heinz Tomato Ketchup was crowned the winner with Jenny saying ‘nothing tastes better on chips’

Heinz Tomato Ketchup was crowned the winner with Jenny saying ‘nothing tastes better on chips’

AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE, £1.45 (342g): Still absolutely the best.

Bright red, smooth as you like and that perfect mix of sweetness and saltiness with just a hint of vinegar.

Nothing tastes better on chips.
