A FAMILY is celebrating the birth of its first baby boy in nearly 90 years — at odds of 20,000/1.

Arnie Ellis is the first male in five generations for the clan, which has produced ten girls over 86 years.

This week he posed with mum Demi Berriman, 27, gran Donna, 43, great-gran Janice, 65, and great-great-gran Beryl Vaus, 86.

Demi, of Pontefract, West Yorks, said: “Everybody is in awe of him, we’re obsessed.”

Arnie was born two months prematurely last June with health problems including sepsis and gastroschisis, a birth defect where the intestines are outside the body.

At one point he was given just 24 hours to live, but has now recovered after surgery.

Dad Adam Ellis, 21, said: “I was shocked when Demi told me her family was full of girls. I think all dads want a boy.”

All other things being equal the chances of  having ten girls followed by a boy are 2048/1 – but bookies Ladbrokes say the odds of ten girls followed by a boy are actually 20,000/1.
