Brussels

EU leaders say they clinched a crucial deal on the migrant
crisis with all-night talks in Brussels and will set up joint
asylum processing sites and restrict the movement of migrants
between European countries. However, the statement says the
measures will be voluntary and gives few details, not saying which
nations will take migrants.

From today, drivers who pass cyclists without leaving them
enough room will be targeted by police for fines. Some forces have
already introduced a £100 fine and three penalty points for the

production because of a shortage of industrial CO2, the latest
casualty of the shortage of the gas which has affected the makers
of beer, fizzy drinks and meat producers. Warburton’s uses the gas
to extend the shelf life of the 1.5 million crumpets it supplies to
consumers each week.

Chances of dying ‘lessen beyond age
105’

New analysis by a German team suggests that the chances of dying
each year lessen for those aged 105 or over. At age 68, there is a
2% chance of death. At 97, the chance is 30%. Yet by 105, it has
decreased to 50%, the study of 4,000 Italians found. Lead
researcher Prof Jim Vaupel observed: “Very few people die from
cancer over 100.”
