Bookmakers Coral is making it odds-on at 10-11 that New Year’s Day will be the coldest in UK history
The firm go 4-6 that temperatures fall below -6C over the Bank Holiday weekend and 2-1 that the wind speed reaches 100mph in the mainland UK.
Meanwhile, Coral has already opened up betting on 2017 being the warmest year on record in the UK in which the firm go 6-4 for the record to be broken for the second consecutive year.

“The cold snap has hit the country hard over the last couple of days and as a result we have seen a flurry of bets for New Year’s Day to be the coldest in history in the UK which is now odds-on following the gamble,” said Coral’s John Hill.
“We’ve had a relatively mild Christmas but the betting suggests that is all set to change going into the New Year as it is odds-on for temperatures to fall below -6C over the next few days,” added Mr Hill.
