Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has warned rapper Kanye West to make sure he is fully vaccinated against Covid after it was claimed the rapper is planning to perform in the country.
West reportedly wants to stage a concert at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium in March, prior to his headlining gigs at California’s Coachella festival in April, according to media reports.
It is not known if the rapper is fully vaccinated, but he previously said he does not trust Covid vaccines.
Morrison was asked whether he would allow West following Australia’s deportation of unvaccinated tennis star Novak Djokovic earlier this month.
During a visit to Queensland, Morrison said: “The rules are you have to be fully vaccinated, they’re the rules.
“They apply to everybody as people have seen. It doesn’t matter who you are, they’re the rules. Follow the rules [and] you can come, if you don’t follow the rules you can’t.”

Victorian Health Minister Martin Foley added: “I don’t, frankly, know Mr West’s vaccination status… apparently Mr West claims to be vaccinated.”
In July 2020 West told Forbes he was suspicious of any Covid-19 vaccine, and described it “the mark of the beast.”
“So when they say the way we’re going to fix Covid is with a vaccine, I’m extremely cautious,” West said.
“They want to put chips inside of us, they want to do all kinds of things, to make it where we can’t cross the gates of heaven.”
Rolling Stone notes that during a podcast appearance in November 2021, he had said: “I only got one of the shots, so I’m half-ccinated.”
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, West’s team had enquired whether an Australia football fixture at the Marvel Stadium scheduled for 18 March could be moved to another venue to allow for the rapper’s concert to go ahead.
This was declined, but sources say that West’s team had instead sought to book the stadium before the Australian Football League season begins, “most likely” the weekend beginning March 12.
