Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has made FIVE changes for the Premier League New Year’s Eve match vs Middlesbrough.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan returns to the team and former outcast Bastian Schweinsteiger is back in the squad. Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling replace Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo in the heart of defence.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to lead the line for the home side, while there is a recall for Anthony Martial. Matteo Darmian and Michael Carrick are not on the teamsheet. It was confirmed before kick-off that Carrick was absent through illness.
Mourinho confirmed in his pre-match press conference that left-back Luke Shaw and captain Wayne Rooney would be absent through injury.
Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin were not included in the squad again amid likely January transfers away from Old Trafford.
United line-up: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Bailly, Blind, Fellaini, Herrera, Pogba, Martial, Mkhitaryan, Ibrahimovic.
Subs: Romero, Jones, Rojo, Lingard, Mata, Schweinsteiger, Rashford.
