Manchester United will host City in the fourth round of the EFL Cup next month.

The second derby of the season will take place on the week beginning October 24 and will be the first evening fixture between the sides since City won 3-0 at United in March 2014.

United and City played out a goalless draw on Bonfire Night in November 2010, but evening fixtures between the teams have been a rarity over the last two decades.

United overcame City over two pulsating League Cup semi-final ties in 2010, when they overturned a 2-1 first leg deficit to beat City 3-1 in the second leg. Carlos Tevez scored all three of City’s goals during the tie. Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney all netted for United at a time when the green and gold protests against the Glazer family took off.

For United, the City game brings to an end a frantic fortnight. United travel to Liverpool on October 17 before hosting Fenerbahce three days later. They then travel to Jose Mourinho’s former club Chelsea on October 23, so the City tie will almost certainly be played on October 26.
