Watch: Dozens of teenagers brawl in the Northern Quarter

Shocking footage has emerged showing dozens of school children fighting each other in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

Police believe up to 100 teenagers – some as young as 13 – were involved in the mass brawl on Tuesday night.

The video, recorded on a mobile phone from a nearby building, shows the youths exchanging blows on the pavement, before the drama ends up in the middle of the road.

You can hear some screaming in horror at what is happening, with others shouting abuse at each other.

When officers arrived at the scene around Dale Street and Spear Street, the group had scarpered.

Many of them were wearing school uniform, and were believed to be aged 13-17.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information about the incident to get in contact.

Following the fracas, Insp Phil Spurgeon of GMP ’s City of Manchester Team said: “We received a number of calls about the incident yesterday evening, which has clearly caused residents of the area and passers-by a great deal of concern and distress.

“We are in the very early stages of the investigation but we believe there could be anything between 30 and 100 young people involved.

“Violence will not be tolerated on the street of Greater Manchester and we will be looking to reprimand the senseless individuals who have caused this chaos.”

The fight follows a mass brawl in the Northern Quarter on derby day – when City beat United on September 10.

That fight saw more than a dozen fans facing off against each other in the street after the match.

Rubbish, signs, chairs and a table were flung between the fighters, who also shouted into each others’ faces.
