Real Madrid are in the process of ironing out a new deal for Gareth Bale in order to keep him away from Manchester United’s grasp, according to reports.
The Spanish press claim Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has held talks with Jose Mourinho and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward in recent days to discuss a potential move to United, which has put officials at the Bernabeu on red alert.
United have repeatedly been linked with Bale over the past 18 months, with Woodward understood to be keen to land the Welsh star.
Bale, 27, joined Real in 2013 for £83million and has enjoyed a successful spell at the club, winning the Champions League twice and the Copa Del Rey on one occasion.
He would want a contract worth somewhere in the region £17.7m if he joined United – and it’s understood sportswear manufacturer adidas are keen to see the deal go ahead.
