Five people have been hospitalised after a bus crashed into a bridge in North London

Emergency services were called to the scene to rescue three passengers who became trapped on the top deck of the bus after it collided with a railway bridge in Tottenham just after 4am. 

The bus’ roof had to be completely cut off following the collision on St Loys Road, Tottenham, which saw five people hospitalised and a further 21 injured and treated by paramedics at the scene.

One witness wrote on Twitter that the roof had been “pretty much sliced off”.

The bus was privately hired, and did not belong to Transport for London, TfL have confirmed – with another Twitter user claiming that “No TfL buses go up that road, the nearby “local” W4 route (which won’t be running at 4am) is a single deck.”

Emergency services had to cut the roof off the bus

Fifteen firefighters, two fire enginges and a rescue unit team attended the dramatic collision, according to a London Fire Brigade spokeperson.

They said: “Crews helped release three people who were trapped on the upper deck of a double-decker bus. 

“Five passengers were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service and 21 people were treated at the scene.

“The brigade was called at 4.05am and the incident was over at 5.44am.”
