Farage was RIGHT to brand Clegg and Miliband ‘quislings’ over battle to stop Brexit

Earlier this week Mr Farage was reprimanded in the European Parliament after using the term to describe the former Lib Dem and Labour leaders.

Vidkun Quisling was a Norwegian political who assisted with the Nazi’s occupation of Norway during the Second World War, with the term now a byword for a person who collaborates with an occupying force.

“No-one is calling them Nazis,” Ukip MEP and former leadership candidate Bill Etheridge said. “I don’t think Nigel is saying that.

“But in terms of collaborating with a foreign entity which controls your country against the will of the people – it seems pretty accurate.”

Mr Miliband and Mr Clegg are two of the leading politicians demanding Parliament play a greater role in the terms of Britain’s exit from the EU.

Both wish to see the UK retain access to the single market, while those calling for a ‘hard’ Brexit desire greater restrictions on immigration.

Writing in The Observer earlier this month, Mr Miliband said: “Having claimed that the referendum was about returning sovereignty to Britain, it would be a complete outrage if May were to determine the terms of Brexit without a mandate from Parliament.

“There is no mandate for hard Brexit, and I don’t believe there is a majority in Parliament for it either.

“Given the important of these decisions for the UK economy… it has to be a matter for MPs.”

Mr Clegg said: “My great worry is that, while there will be a vote on repeating the 1972 European Communities Act, which is about the decision to leave the EU, it will be left to the executive alone to decide the terms of Brexit.

“That would not be remotely acceptable.”

Addressing the European Parliament on Wednesday, Mr Farage hit out at those attempting to delay or prevent Brexit.

Accusing the EU of trying to subvert the will of the British people he said: “The whole thing is a disgrace and it is even worse that it is supported by quislings in the British Parliament.

“People like Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband who are desperate to keep Britain inside this awful single market.

“Well, I’m sorry but it simply isn’t going to happen. There are 17.4 million people who could not have been clearer. We voted to say we want our country back and in the end that is what is going to happen.”

Mr Farage was criticised for his language by the president of the European Parliament Martin Schulz.

However, Mr Etheridge accused the German of having an agenda against the UK.

“Schulz has always been the same,” he told Express.co.uk.

“He is supposed to be the guardian of the rules. He is supposed to be an even-handed chairman – he is nothing of the sort.

“He is completely biased, he seeks every opportunity to interject his own views on a debate and he’s a EU federalist of the worst kind.

“He loves to have a go at Ukip and actually the UK at the same time. Genuinely someone who is a perfect example of why we are better off out.”
