To scan or not to scan…why is that the question?
The words ‘unexpected item in bagging area’ fill us all with anger or dread – but studies show that lots of us see the ‘convenient’ machines dotted around shops as an easy way to grab a few freebies.
A study from University of Leicester revealed that normally honest people give into temptation when they’re left to scan their own shopping, choosing to blame faulty technology or general stupidity if confronted by a member of staff.
