Do you need to catch a bus, tram or train over New Year? We’ve got the details for services across Greater Manchester.

Passengers are being urged to check before they travel as many bus service timings are different, complicated further by rail engineering works.

Stagecoach and Arriva are the only companies running on New Year’s Day.

Manchester Metroshuttle free buses linking the railway stations and key points such as car parks and businesses around the city centre will run every day.

We’ve also got details on the Ring and Ride service over New Year, and the Local Link.

So if you are heading into the city centre for a night out, or watching the fireworks , then find out all the travel information below.

Trains

Rail bosses have warned passengers about disruption as work on the Ordsall Chord to link Piccadilly and Oxford Road continues.

Route changes through Manchester are described as ‘complex’ by rail bosses, and could lead to headaches for anyone travelling from Macclesfield and through Manchester.

Bosses are warning passengers to check before they travel between now and January 2.

And you should keep checking right up to your travel date – as things could change again at the last minute.

Parts of many routes have been replaced by coaches.

Trains to Victoria, Oxford Road or Piccadilly are affected, while Oxford Road and Deansgate stations will be closed entirely on January 1 and 2.

Trains between Manchester and Liverpool and Scotland will take a particular pounding.

Your service may start or end at different stations, operate at different times or be replaced by buses.

For example, on January 1, there will be no services between Edinburgh and Manchester.

Martin Frobisher, route managing director for Network Rail, said: “While I recognise the short-term pain of timetable impacts, I would urge people to keep sight of the long-term gain the Ordsall Chord scheme will bring them.”

Roadworks

Roads around the Ordsall site, including Trinity Way, Water Street, and Liverpool Road will also be hit by diversions, while there is a diversion in place for the First 33 service.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) suggests travelling at quieter times, changing your route, using public transport or car sharing.

Water Street between Liverpool Road and New Elm Street will be closed until January 13.
