The scooter had been stolen from the owner’s front garden and dumped by the Twin Sails Bridge
Lifeboatmen, coastguards and the police spent hours scouring Poole Harbour in Dorset for the vulnerable owner of the buggy amid fears they had fallen in the sea.
Nothing was found on the first day of the search last Thursday and police returned to the area the following day to carry out follow-up enquiries.

It has now emerged that the red electric scooter had been stolen from its owner’s front garden days before and was dumped by the Twin Sails Bridge by the thief.
The owner did not report the theft to the police.

Inspector Derek McKerl, of Dorset Police, said: “Following a number of enquiries, we have now located the owner of the mobility scooter and he is safe and well.
“It has been established that the scooter was stolen from the owner’s garden during the week before it was found abandoned.

After hours of searching, officials eventually located the owner of the scooter
“The theft of the scooter was not reported to police.
“Officers would like to thank the public for their help in sharing the appeal and providing information to help with the investigation.”
