A top terror expert has urged Theresa May to keep links with EU security circles

David Anderson QC, the Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation said the European Union security and intelligence-sharing deals currently in place will need to be reinforced after Article 50 is revoked.

Speaking to MPs yesterday, Mr Anderson underlined the great benefit that being a member of the European Arrest Warrant – which governs extradition across the EU – is to Britain.

But he did express confidence in Britain being able to strike an arrangement to keep its links with the Europe law enforcement agency.

Mr Anderson said: “If we didn’t have the European Arrest Warrant then we would be really back in the dark ages in terms of extradition and the nightmares of the Costa del Crime.

“The price of failure is quite high hopefully that will ensure success. But I don’t think it’s an altogether straightforward road.”

The terror expert claimed the EU make Britain’s ability to strike a deal a lot harder because they will not “prostrate itself”.

Although the European Commission’s own Security Commissioner Sir Julian King praised Britain for its “material contribution” to counter-terror.

Sir Julian claimed Britain and the EU had a “shared interest” in fighting terrorism, cyber-crime and human trafficking “collectively”.

But he added: “Just because something is a shared objective doesn’t mean that it’s easy to achieve.”

Dominic Raab Tory MP, hailed Brexit and felt Britain had the capability to control its security without the Union.

Mr Raab said Britain will finally be able to “boost security by applying proper border controls, particularly to bar terrorists and dangerous criminals”.
