‘It’s SCAREMONGERING’ Audience member blasts young people for peddling Brexit DOOM

The man, speaking on the BBC “generation gap” special as part of the under 30’s section of the audience, scolded a fellow audience member – a student who said her future had been “plunged into uncertainty” because of Brexit.

He picked up on her concerns with regards to the Erasmus Programme, which allows EU students to join universities across the bloc.

“I think that a lot of what is being said, certainly among young people, in the wake of the referendum is absolutely scaremongering,” he said.

“In terms of Erasmus, in terms of immigration and other things – the whole reason I think a lot of people voted Leave was because they wanted control, not necessarily because the numbers need to come down but because there needed to be in control.

“You know, people study abroad outside of the EU, not part of Erasmus, you can still do that.”

It comes after the other audience member painted a gloomy picture of life after Brexit.

She said: “I wasn’t actually old enough to vote in the EU referendum, I only just turned 18 and I’m still in school and yet my future’s being plunged into uncertainty by the older people who voted to leave the EU.

“That means I’m not going to have the chance to study abroad if we have to pull out of the Erasmus scheme, I’m not going to have the chance to have foreign lecturers when I want to study German and Hispanic studies.

“And I want to live in a country where we can accept these people, we can accept people from other countries, we can embrace the culture that they bring to our country and we can embrace them as citizens.”

Responding from the over 60s section of the audience, a Brexit backer said she worried for her grandchildren under the current system.

She said: “Our culture – it’s changed too much.”
