No, blackface isn’t a tribute or a joke – it’s always offensive

As if that’s even a matter for debate in 2017.

This week we’ve had a spate of blackface allegations.

Firstly, there was the news that a gay pride event was being boycotted over the inclusion of a Caucasian Beyonce tribute act who uses fake tan to look black.

Then there was the MUA who managed to change a white model into a black one using makeup.

In both incidents, those responsible claimed that there was no offence needed and that they were simply creating art.
