It comes alongside bans on objects such as flares, large flags and selfie sticks.

The All English Lawn Tennis Club says the move aims to stop people using the event as a “platform”.

A spokeswoman said: “We wouldn’t want people to use this kind of event as a platform for their specific views or causes.”

Apart from chants, which are likely to be met by a firm “quiet please” from umpires, political t-shirts and banners are also barred.

Repeat offenders are likely to be ejected from the grounds.

The move is prompted by scenes of thousands of festival-goers participating in chants of “Oh Jeremy Corbyn” during Glastonbury after the Labour leader appeared on the famous Pyramid stage.

Mr Corbyn has reportedly been invited to watch this years’ edition of Wimbledon from the Royal Box alongside other political figures and celebrities.

And it appears Twitter users are enthusiastic about his appearance at the historic sporting event.

User Sarah Kelly tweeted: “How awesome would it be at Wimbledon to hear ‘Oh Jeremy Corbyn’. MAKE IT SO!!!!’”

And Ryan Murray wrote: “It would make my life if the ‘ohhhhhhh Jeremy Corbyn’ chant became the soundtrack of this year’s Wimbledon.”

And medical student Mouad Elhmaidi said: “Why I am looking forward to Wimbledon?

“Hearing Jeremy Corbyn chants in the stands.”
