Rick Astley has tweeted a very special message to fans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his hit song-turned-meme Never Gonna Give You Up.
The track from 1987 was a worldwide number-one hit including the UK where it remained at number one for five weeks, but in 2007 it gained a new lease of life after the internet turned the song into a meme known as ‘rickrolling’ which involved misleading links (commonly shortened URLs) redirecting to the song’s music video.
Rick tweeted on Thursday to celebrate the anniversary, writing: ’30 years ago today I said I was Never Gonna Give You Up. I am a man of my word – Rick x.’
