‘I hit a raw nerve’ Sir Vince Cable takes ANOTHER swipe at Boris Johnson after feud

Sir Vince Cable suggested that the Foreign Secretary may be stepping away from the cabinet due to disagreements over Brexit. 

The Foreign Secretary snapped back at the Liberal Democrat leader following the remarks with a fiery message over the weekend. 

A spokesman for Mr Johnson told the Telegraph: “Boris Johnson and Philip Hammond are working closely to take the UK out of the EU and are not going to be diverted from that important task.

“Vince Cable is making this stuff up and maybe he should take more time to think up some policies rather than wasting his time on peddling lies.”

Speaking on talkRADIO, Sir Vince took another dig at Mr Johnson suggesting he had lost his humour and the Lib Dem had “hit a nerve”.

He said: “I had heard various rumours around the special advisor journalist community. 

“It was just a rumour I had no basis for arguing it.

“What I had expected was that he would reply to me with his normal humour, he is a genuinely witty man. 

“But the fact that he responded in such an angry and a bad tempered way led me to think that probably I had hit a raw nerve.”

Responding to Mr Johnson’s comments in the Telegraph, the Liberal Democrat leader questioned cracks in the cabinet over the UK’s exit from the Brussels bloc.

He said: “It is a simple question: does he support the position of Philip Hammond or Liam Fox? Because he can’t support both.

“And if Philip Hammond secures a three-year transitional deal, can Boris Johnson confirm he will stay in the Government and support the policy?”

Liam Fox and Mr Johnson are both keen to quickly cut ties with the European Union, however, the Chancellor Philip Hammond has demanded a transitional period with the bloc to secure the futures of British businesses. 

A spokesman for Theresa May sent a warning shot to the Chancellor saying the free movement of EU citizens will definitely end after Britain unshackles itself from the bloc in 2019.
