Female prison guard ‘grabbed by cop killer and repeatedly stabbed’ in high-security jail

A LIFER who murdered a policeman has allegedly knifed a woman prison officer in a maximum security jail.

David Bieber is accused of grabbing her from behind and repeatedly slashing her neck, hands and arms with a 12in blade.

A source said: “This was a savage attack and she’s lucky to be alive.

“Bieber is a high risk prisoner in one of Britain’s toughest jails. Yet he has apparently been able to get a deadly weapon. There must be an urgent inquiry.”

It is unclear if the weapon used at Long Lartin Prison, Worcs, was a knife or an implement made into a blade.

The guard’s injuries were not life-threatening and she was released after hospital treatment.

American Bieber, 51, was a fugitive wanted over a murder in Florida when he shot dead PC Ian Broadhurst in Leeds in 2003.

The drug dealer and steroid-addicted bodybuilder also attempted to kill two other officers. He was caught after a manhunt and is serving 37 years.

The Ministry of Justice said: “We do not tolerate violence against our hardworking prison staff. This incident is being investigated by police, so we cannot comment further.”

Glyn Travis, of the Prison Officers Association, said: “It is a miracle we are not grieving for a murdered colleague.”
