The retired postie, who believes she was there for an hour, gave her mouth to mouth until she coughed up water.
“A small half teaspoonful of water came out of its mouth which I had opened.” He pushed on with bringing Freda back to life and performed life-saving treatment for another hour.
John, said: “Her leg twitched so I warmed her up with a hairdryer. I then massaged her chest, legs and neck, and after another hour she gasped and opened her eyes.
“She’s eaten a quarter of a tomato and two lettuce leaves today so I don’t think she’s got brain damage.”
John has now put a fence around his pond in Gloucester. He added: “I am so happy she came back to life. She would have been a great loss to me.”
