Less than a third of the money raised for those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire has reached their pockets, new data shows
Grenfell Tower victims have received less than a third of £19million raised for them by charities, it was revealed yesterday.
Although half the cash has been passed to distributing groups, only £5.8million has so far gone to survivors.
The figure is up from £2.8 million a week ago, showing a huge acceleration in the distribution of funds
But that is £2.8million up on a week ago as the handout drive speeds up.
National charities registrar David Holdsworth said: “Further funds will be distributed in the coming days. Some challenges still remain.”
The dead’s next-of-kin, those treated in hospital and all Grenfell households are among those entitled to funds. At least 80 perished in June’s West London inferno.
Extra cops and barriers will protect the tower for the Notting Hill Carnival next weekend — which will observe a minute’s silence.
