Labour tried to end the damaging Sarah Champion row over Pakistani grooming gangs by announcing her successor yesterday.
Jeremy Corbyn heaped praise on arch-Remainer Dawn Butler after he appointed her Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities.
Sarah Champion wrote for The Sun about how horrified she is with the ‘horrific trend in grooming and sexual abuse by gangs’
Mr Corbyn forced Ms Champion to resign from the role after she wrote in The Sun that Britain has “a problem with British Pakistani men raping white girls.”
He said that she was “wrong to designate an entire community as the problem” of grooming in the UK.
Her replacement is expected to also continue in her diverse communities role.
The Brent Central MP had resigned from the front benches earlier this year after defying the party whip and voting against triggering Article 50 – but was re-appointed to the shadow cabinet after the General Election.
Mr Corbyn said: “I am delighted to appoint Dawn Butler as Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities.
“Dawn is a great champion for women, equality for all and our country’s diverse communities. I look forward to working closely with her to advance our agenda of a truly equal society that works for the many not the few.”

The Labour leader selected MP Dawn Butler as Champion’s replacement
Ms Butler paid tribute to her predecessor after her new role was announced.
She said: “I am honoured to accept this appointment and would like to thank Sarah Champion for all the hard work she has done in the role.
“Labour will tackle all forms of discrimination and the ways they interact.
Equality is equality, you can’t pick and choose. I have always fought for those who feel voiceless and I will fight to deliver real equality in our country.”
During the General Election, she regularly introduced Corbyn at rallies.
