An undocumented Malian migrant who saved the life of a
four-year-old boy in Paris is to receive French citizenship.
Mamoudou Gassama was filmed scaling the outside of an apartment
building in Paris to bring the young boy to safety, after he was
spotted dangling from a balcony on the fourth floor.

The 22-year-old met French president Emmanuel Macron yesterday
at the Elysee Palace, where Macron said he would be made a
naturalised citizen.
Macron also “gave him a medal for courage and said he would also
be offered a role in the fire service”, the BBC reports.
After the meeting, Gassama told journalists that the boy did not
explain how he came to be hanging from the balcony, and said his
mother had “gone to a party”.
The rescued boy’s father was “detained overnight for alleged
parental neglect, and is to appear in court in September”,
says The Guardian.
