A celebration of speed at the City of London
Concours 2018 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera: the cars that shaped
the marque’s Vanquish replacement
This is the second year that the luxurious event, which
runs for just two days, has taken place at the five-acre grounds in
the City of London, and more than £50m worth of vehicles are set to
appear. The 2018 event celebrates speed, so expect everything
from early Le Mans winners to production car record
holders.
Here are some of the stars heading to next week’s show:
McLaren F1

Shortly after it launched in 1993, the McLaren F1, which has a top speed of
240mph, became the fastest production car in the world.
Designed by Gordon Murray, the legendary designer behind McLaren’s
dominant MP4/4 Formula 1 car from 1988, the F1 supercar was powered
by a BMW-sourced V12 motor that sat in a gold leaf-lined engine bay
to reflect heat. It’s particularly popular among collectors
nowadays, with prices continuing to rise above £2m.
Ferrari F50

One of McLaren F1’s closest competitors during the
mid-to-late 1990s was the Ferrari F50. Although the F50 couldn’t
match the McLaren in straight line speed, the supercar incorporated
several elements of Ferrari’s Formula 1 cars to make it a weapon on
the track. These included carbon-fibre wishbone suspension, along
with a 4.7-litre V12 engine derived from the company’s race-winning
641 Formula 1 car from 1990.
The new – and old – Alpine A110

Renault’s luxury division Alpine relaunched towards the
end of last year with the arrival of the new A110 sports car. The
car’s design and name are inspired by the company Alpine A110,
which won the first World Rally Championship in 1973. Both cars
will be on show at the City of London Concours, giving you a chance
to see how far the French carmaker has come in the past 50
years.
Aston Martin One-77

One of the most exclusive cars to leave the Aston Martin
factory, the One-77 will be on show in London next week. Limited to
a production run of just 77 cars, the One-77 was the most powerful
Aston Martin to date when it was unveiled at
the 2008 Concorso d’Eleganza Ville d’Este in Italy. The hypercar is
powered by a 7.3-litre V12 engine, which produces a 750bhp and
553lb-ft of torque. The ONe-77’s top speed is listed at 220mph,
with a 0-62mph sprint taking just 3.7 seconds.
Jaguar XK120 OTS

Jaguar’s XK120 OTS was the fastest production car in the world
when it made its debut in 1948, according to Auto Express. The car also set records during
24-hour races and “seven day, seven night” speed records, reaching
more than 100mph on each event, the magazine says. This particular
model, the OTS, is the open-top version of the XK120 sports car. A
fixed-roof coupe joined the range in 1951.
