The ABC television network has cancelled comedian Roseanne
Barr’s hit sitcom Roseanne, after the show’s star posted a
racist rant on Twitter.
In a now-deleted tweet, Barr said that African-American former
Obama aide Valerie Jarrett looked like what would result if the
Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes “had a
baby”.

In the same series of tweets, Barr “retweeted false conspiracy
theories and attacked former first daughter Chelsea Clinton”, and
“called on Americans to ‘unite against’ a supposed CIA mind-control
program”, Fairfax Media says.
“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and
inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her
show,” Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, said in a
statement.
Prior to news of the show’s cancellation, Roseanne
consulting producer Wanda Sykes announced that she would not return
to work on the sitcom, which had been picked up by ABC for a second
season.
Barr, who has also been dropped by her agency IGM Partners, has
since publicly apologised and announced that she is leaving the
social media platform, CNN says.
