Department report into Clinton email probe
Friday, June 15, 2018 –

Former FBI director James Comey made a “serious error of
judgement” in publicly announcing the re-opening of the
investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server
in the lead up to the 2016 presidential election, according to a
report from the US Justice Department’s internal watchdog.
US inspector-general Michael Horowitz also concluded in the-500
page report that Comey “did not exhibit any political bias in his
actions or try to influence the election”, Reuters reports.

However, the report does criticise two senior FBI officials who
later worked on special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into
alleged Russian interference in the presidential election.
FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page showed a
“willingness to take official action” to prevent Donald Trump from
becoming president, it says.
The two agents, who were having an affair at the time, exchanged
text messages about whether Donald Trump would be elected
president, the BBC reports. In one reply to
Page, Strzok said: “No. No he won’t. We’ll stop it”.
