The US National Parks Service has granted permission for a
“white civil rights rally” in Washington DC.

The rally, organised by Jason Kessler, is planned for 11-12
August, the anniversary of the “Unite the Right” rally in
Charlottesville, which ended in violent clashes.

One woman was killed and 19 other people were injured when James
Alex Fielder deliberately drove his car into a crowd of
counter-protesters.

“An application to hold another event in Charlottesville this
year was rejected due to public safety concerns,” the BBC says.

Kessler says the rally in Washington DC is about “bringing civil
rights abuse of the Unite the Right demonstrators to the attention
of President Trump and the nation”.

The Southern Poverty Law Centre, which tracks hate groups in the
US, says the rally is “expected to draw counter-protests” similar
to those at Charlottesville.
