Picnic at Hanging Rock, a new period drama based on Joan
Lindsay’s 1967 mystery novel, begins at 9.05pm on BBC Two. Three
students and a teacher from a school for young ladies in Australia
disappear during a Valentine’s Day picnic in 1900. Natalie Dormer
and Samara Weaving star.
Meanwhile, from 10pm to 1am, Channel 5 lifts the lid on drug
users and suppliers in a three-part documentary
Britain’s Cocaine Epidemic.
Tonight’s best film recommendation is Falling
Down (1992) on ITV4 at 11pm. Michael Douglas stars as
a stressed motorist who cracks under the pressure of life in Joel
Schumacher’s thought-provoking urban thriller. “Taking in the
length and breadth of the city of Los Angeles, the film itself is
spookily in tune with the thoughts and feelings of the inhabitants
at the time,” notes Den of Geek.
