Apple is gearing up to launch a new MacBook Pro alongside
its much-hyped next generation of iPhones, according to
reports.

Analysts are predicting that the tech giant will unveil an
all-new 16in MacBook Pro featuring Intel’s most powerful processors
at its next keynote event in September.

If the rumours are true, the new model would be Apple’s
largest MacBook since the 17in model was retired in
2012.

Here’s what else we know about Apple’s next
laptop:

When will it come out?

According to London-based analysts IHS Markit, the 16in MacBook
Pro will be unveiled in September, Forbes reports.

That would chime with Apple’s plans for the launch of its
new iPhones, which are traditionally unveiled during the company’s
September keynote.

How much will it cost?

MacBook Pros are the priciest products in Apple’s laptop
range and the new 16in model is expected to be even more expensive,
given that it’ll be the largest in the line-up.

Today’s entry-level 13in models start at £1,249, with the
current 15in range costing £1,100 more. Therefore, a figure in the
mid £3,000 bracket doesn’t seem out of the question for the 16in
version.

So what are the new features?

Although Apple has yet to comment on the 16in model – and
is unlikely to do so until the rumoured September release – a spate
of leaks have provided some information about possible features on
the new laptop.

The most significant is the larger screen. Ming-Chi Kuo, a
“reliable” Apple analyst, claims that the screen will be somewhere
between 16in and 16.5in, and will be encased in a body that boasts
an “all-new design”, 9to5Mac reports.

The Sun believes it’s “possible that Apple may
broaden screen size” while retaining the same footprint as the
existing 15in MacBook Pro. There’s a good chance the display
resolution will be upped to 4K, too.

The new laptop is expected to retain the digital Touch
Bar, which appears on range-topping 13in models and both 15in
configurations, as well as the enlarged touchpad.

What about the specs?

Jeff Lin, associate director at IHS Markit, has
told Forbes that the 16in model will feature a new
“CPU” (computer processing unit) that will work in harmony with the
upcoming macOS Catalina software.

Given the laptop’s size, there’s a chance the 16in model
could feature Intel’s “fastest mobile processors”, the news site
says. “That would be the 9th generation H series mobile Intel
processors”, which can be found in Apple’s most recent 15in
laptops.

Forbes also expects a more powerful version of the AMD
Radeon Pro Vega 20 graphics chip that powers Apple’s most expensive
laptops.
