Stephanie Garbe (@stephanie.garbe13) shared the home DIY trick in a TikTok video.

“Need a summer pool hack that’s cheap and easy?” she asked.

“Go to your local Dollar Tree and grab hula hoops and some black garbage bags.”

She explained how she fashioned homemade solar covers with her purchases.

Stephanie picked up four hula hoops and black garbage bags for $1.25 apiece, spending under $20 for the entire project.

She began by fitting the garbage bags over the hula hoops, securing them closed with a double knot.

Once the project was completed, she tossed the hula hoops into the pool.

The hula hoops will heat the water as they sit in the sun.

Once the pool is properly heated, Stephanie explained that she simply hangs the hula hoops up to dry.

“Easy Dollar Tree hack and you’re not wrestling with a solar cover,” she said.

Commenters were pleasantly surprised and impressed by her simple DIY.

“Such a great and easy hack to help warm up the water! It’s already so hot here in Texas!” said one fan.

“So smart! Basically almost free pool heaters!” added another.

“I’ve seen someone do this with the black tablecloths from the party section to make this even cheaper!” someone else suggested.

“You can probably get two hoops out of each cloth!”

“What a great idea!! I’m going to have to try this on our pool this summer!” said one excited viewer.

Others joked that they had anticipated something different when they watched the video.

“Not me thinking it was to sit on,” admitted one commenter.

“I thought it was going to be a pool float,” agreed another.

“Above ground pool activities,” quipped a third.
