Flights were delayed and people arriving were forced to wait at the bag drop as operations slowed down due to the worker shortage.

Ground handler Swissport said between 20 and 30 workers called in sick on Wednesday – more than a quarter of the team needed.

It has led to disruption and frustration, with passengers sat on stationary planes and people waiting for their luggage.

Swissport said staffing levels are expected to return to normal on Friday.
