One man died at the scene, three others are in hospital after the Croydon stabbing

Emergency services raced to the south London scene shortly after 8.30pm to discover the body of a man and three other bloodied victims lying nearby on the residential road.

All those who were injured are in their twenties.

One eyewitness told Express.co.uk a woman ran down the street shouting “he’s dead, he’s dead”

London Ambulance Service alerted police to the stabbings, on Gloucester Road, but were unable to save the man’s life – the other three have been taken to hospital with serious injuries, one is in a life threatening condition.

An eyewitness told Express.co.uk she saw a woman, believed to be a relative of the deceased, running down the street shouting: “He’s dead! He’s dead!”

The onlooker said: “I heard a commotion and then sirens and blue flashing lights went past. I think the man who died lives on this road because his family are all here grieving. There’s a lot of wailing.”

The frenzied stabbing took place on Gloucester Road, Croydon

Croydon borough police officers wrote on Twitter: “Units responding to multiple stabbings on Gloucester Road.”

Scotland Yard said a 22-year-old man is believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries, another male was stabbed in the leg and the third was stabbed in his back.

It is not clear if the victims knew each other or if the incident took place inside a property or on the road outside.

One of the victims who was reportedly stabbed in the leg knocked on a resident’s door pleading for help while the man who later passed away lay unconscious on the ground, according to local media.

Mother-of-two Ayman Gul said the banging on her front door of her home in Gloucester Road gave the impression that “someone who was really in need”.

She said: “There was a knock on the door, the knock was like someone was really in need, so when I looked through the windows I just saw them [the victims] and called 999.

“There were two men outside. It was quite shocking to see, they couldn’t say anything.

“I was shaking, I didn’t know how to deal with a thing as I’ve got young children in the house. It’s shocking to see something like this happen around here.

An investigation is underway into the stabbing

“We were supporting them. I was trying to deal with it through the window. There was another person trying to put him in the recovery position and then the ambulance arrived.

“The paramedics got right on to him straight away. They tried everything they could. There were lots of people trying to save him.”

No arrests have been made and police have not released a description of the suspected attacker.

Forensic teams have since arrived at the scene

Forensic officers have since arrived at the scene as roads in the surrounding area have been cordoned off with police continuing their investigations.

A spokeswoman for the Met Police said: “Police in Croydon were called by London Ambulance Service (LAS) to Gloucester Road, Croydon at 20:12hrs on Monday October 31 following reports of a stabbing. 

“Officer attended and found three males believed to be aged in their twenties suffering from stab injuries. 

“Two of the males have been taken to hospital in a serious condition. 

“The third was treated at the scene for critical stab injuries. He died at the scene a short while later. 

“A post-mortem examination will be held in due course. Formal identification awaits. Police are in the process of informing next-of-kin. 

“A fourth male, believed to be the same age as the other victims, has presented himself at a south London hospital with stab injuries which are not believed to be serious.

“A crime scene remains in place.”
