Jose Mourinho has put a block on Manchester United loaning players out in the January window – with one exception.

The Reds manager is prepared to allow third choice goalkeeper 23-year-old Sam Johnstone to leave Old Trafford temporarily to build up his game time.

“Sam Johnstone is only player that I allow to go on loan because he doesn’t play one single minute. He needs to play,” says Mourinho.

It will mean a promotion for 20-year-old Swiss-born keeper Joel Pereira who has been on loan in Portugal with Belenenses since August.

“We have young keeper in Joel Pereira who has many minutes in the past six months. Joel has been in the Portuguese Premier League and for his development now is the time for Sam to play six months.

“He is the only loan move we are going to do.”

Johnstone has been interesting Aston Villa, Sunderland and Stoke City.

But others will either have to leave permanently or stick around at Old Trafford.

That will be a possible disappointment to Everton who have been linked with taking out of favour Memphis Depay away to Goodison until the end of the season. Seville have also expressed an interesting in taking striker Anthony Martial on loan.

Mourinho has also stressed he is not looking to let anyone leave the club for good.

“I don’t want to sell players,” added the Old Trafford boss.

“The club and the board are totally with me but as I have said before if a player is not having lots of minutes and really wants to leave we have no right to stop him if the conditions are right.

“At this moment not received one single offer we are going to accept.”
